The series of films by the name of Star Wars was created by George Lucas. It was a trilogy of which the first film was released on May 25, 1977. The second and the third sequels of the series were released at three year intervals. The film titled Star Wars was a release by 20th Century Fox.
The three films were accepted well and it was the last one that was seen as the weakest of the three. However, after 16 years a series of prequel films were released. They also were released with three year intervals. The final one of this series was released only in 2005. Unlike the original three films mixed reactions were there for the prequels. The last one was the one that had better reactions.
Star Wars was the third best revenue earning series of films after Harry Potter and James Bond. Including the revenue it got from its theatrical films the series earned a total of $4.49 billion. Due to this success there have also been re releases of the films to theaters.
It all started when universal studios agreed to make the two films Star Wars and American Graffiti in 1971. Later Star Wars was dropped. In 1973 Lucas wrote a short summary of a story called “The Journal of Whills”. However, he had to write Star Wars, a 13 page treatment as the story was not easy to understand. Later in 1974 he added more material and wrote the screen play. In this one he added more elements such as Sith and Death Star.
In his second draft of the script he made it more simplified and added “Force” the super natural power. With his third draft he made more modifications. Since Lucas never expected the film to be a series, he made more changes in the fourth draft. Once the film was produced and finished, George Lucas made up his mind to make it a series.
The Theme of this movie includes knights, witches and princesses. Though the worlds created by science fiction and fantasy films are futuristic and clean the one that is depicted in Star Wars is a dirty world.
In order to record these films digital cameras have been used with the exception of episode 1 which was shot with an Arriflex camera. The aspect ratio used was 2.4:1.
